Composting
The real black gold
Composting is the conversion of organic material (plants, grass, leaves, fruit and vegetables) through decomposition into a material that resembles soil. Microorganisms, like bacteria and fungi, and invertebrates, like worms and insects, help to convert material into compost. Compost can be used in your garden as a soil additive and natural fertilizer. Compost brings microbes to your soil, helps with erosion control, pH balance, and healthy root development in plants. If you mix compost into clay soil it will become lighter and more porous and if you mix compost with sandy soils it will hold water better.
Yard and garden compost – Composting yard and garden waste reduces yard waste volume by 50%-75 and is a great way to recycle plant nutrients back into your yard.
Kitchen scrap composting – The best way to compost food waste outside is to use a closed composter or compost bin. This ensures that you develop good, clean compost while keeping rodents, birds andsome insects out.
Worm composting – Also called vermiculture, worm composting is a good way to recycle food wast, especially for people who don't have access to a yard or garden.
