Smart choices
Think before you buy
We spend money and buy things all the time, even when we try not to do so. Whether it's basic needs like food and prescription medicine or tempting wants link electronic gadgets and tabloid magazines. When we spend our money we express a little bit about ourselves.
Before you buy something that is more a "want" than a "need you might want to ask yourself:
-
Do I really need this or just want this?
-
Do I already have something like this item which will serve me just as well?
-
Is it really worth the money?
-
Is there something else I'd rather have instead that makes more sense?
-
Does someone I know have one that I can borrow?
-
What's this thing made of?
-
Where was it made?
-
Was it manufactured in a humane and environmental way?
-
Will it last a long time?
-
Will I spend more money to maintain or operate it?
-
How much packaging is involved it this?
-
What do I do with it when it breaks or is used up?
You are in charge of your actions.
