Plan and combine trips
Spending less time in the car
Plan your trips and combine your errands in the same area at once, rather than making separate trips.
By planning your trips and combining as many errands into one trip you can save time, money and frustration in traffic.
- Make a list of what you need and where you will go before you leave.
- Plan a map, in your head or on paper, of the route that is shortest, least crowded or most scenic. Avoid streets that pass by schools. This will be faster for you and reduce congestion near crowded schools.
- Plan your trips for weekdays after 10:00 am and before 3:00 pm
- Drive the vehicle that gets the best "in city" mileage.
Map your basic trips - Use Internet mapping programs to determine the best route
Carpool - If you and a co-worker trade off on who drives which day or week, you can both save gas and money.
“Cutting a 20 mile trip out of your schedule each week can reduce your global warming pollution by more than 1,200 pounds a year and save you over $100 in gas expenses.” - Environmental Defense Fund
