So it’s the perfect location to start a routine of source reduction, recycling, conservation and chemical control. By determining the areas that you can easily change first and then moving on to other, more involved, tasks you’ll find that making smart changes will save you time, money and energy.
The average household will spend $6,400 on utility bills and at the gas pump this year—$1,700 more than just two years ago, according to the Alliance to Save Energy. However, this is not a fixed amount. Depending on how and when you use your appliances and whether they are Energy Star rated you can reduce that amount significantly.
NEWS - The Obama "Administration Announces Nearly $8 Billion in Weatherization Funding and Energy Efficiency Grants" - The Weatherization Assistance Program will allow an average investment of up to $6,500 per home in energy efficiency upgrades and will be available for families making up to 200% of the federal poverty level – or about $44,000 a year for a family of four. Check with your state or local agencies to see if you qualify and to apply.
Around the house – Don't neglect the simple and inexpensive things you can do around your house that will make you more comfortable and save money and energy. Includes things to do daily and periodic maintenance.
Improve the energy efficiency of your home – Smart actions in and around your house can reduce your energy bills and reduce dependence on dirty energy sources. These actions will take some time and money but it will be worth it. They may even include the purchase of new appliances.
